Education and Discipleship

The goal of our Education and Discipleship Ministry is to provide children, youth, and adults with an environment where the complex challenges and questions they face are not opposed to their spiritual formation, but a valuable part of it.

At Lake B, we don’t shy away from the hard stuff; we embrace it. This means we promote critical theological reflection, positive socio-emotional development, and a culture where faith and belonging can flourish.

Children

We believe every child is made in God’s image and deeply loved with a unique purpose and a place where they truly belong. Lake B creates a safe and welcoming environment where kids are seen, valued, and encouraged to explore their faith with wonder and curiosity. Through meaningful relationships and engaging experiences, we help children grow in confidence, connection, and their understanding of God’s persistent love.

Sunday School

We believe in the strength of children’s voices and the depth of their thinking. Together, we ask questions, wonder, and laugh. We encourage one another and enjoy discovering new ways to see and understand God's love and hope in the world.

Our passionate team of teachers and volunteers lead students from Pre-K through 5th grade. We also have a dedicated nursery space in the sanctuary chapel where parents and caregivers can move around with their children ages 0-2 years old during worship services.

Because we value the importance of family worship when we gather, all children remain in service with their families for our opening time of musical worship and are then dismissed to their classes.

Volunteer with Us

Lake B is looking for teens and adults to help with Pre-K through 5th grade once a month! For more information, contact:

Youth

Lake B’s Youth Ministry Program is focused on cultivating spaces where young people develop meaningful relationship with peers and others to build a network of support, equipping young people with a theological framework which holds and makes space for the complexity of their everyday lives, and monthly Friday night events focused on fun, food, and friendships.

Sunday Mornings at 9:30 Am

6th-12th graders meet for a time of community-building and engaging discussions about scripture, faith, and topics relevant to their lives.

Care Code

Youth-led mental health workshops, conversations, and opportunities for learning, sharing resources, and centering the mental health of young people and their families in our Lake B community and beyond.

Petrichor Collective

The Petrichor Collective is a small group of youth and young adults who are pursuing the establishment of a coffee business in the form of a worker-owned cooperative. They currently provide an espresso based drink service 4 Sundays every month, directly after Sunday morning worship in Fellowship Hall. The Petrichor Collective utilizes coffee as the medium to communicate its greater message—youth and worker empowerment, and the positive socioeconomic implications cooperatively run businesses have on communities.

Adult

Transformation is an ongoing process—a practice of unlearning and relearning—as we take into account how God is inviting us into newness and wholeness. Transformation can feel strange, disruptive, and occasionally offensive, and that's OK. Following Jesus involves discomfort at times, but it also involves growth, liberation, hope, and joy.

Adult Ministries seek to provide individuals ages 18 and older with opportunities to critically reflect upon their faith, as well as deepen their awareness of God in the every day.

Three examples of adult activities that occur throughout the year:

Digging Deeper Classes

4-6 week long classes that provide opportunity for more in-depth theological reflection. Instruction provided by  Lake B community members. Examples of past classes include atonement, Christology, eco-theology, and feminist theology, etc.

Lenten Small Groups

Small groups that meet during Lent for 6 weeks.

Preaching Roundtable

A weekly gathering that provides space for folks to process and reflect on biblical texts and Sunday sermons.
